Sequestering Education

The federal education enterprise is about to undergo a dramatic shift.  Are you ready?  How will sequestration affect your budget for next year?  And what do you know about the suggested changes to all of the major OMB circulars?  Did your State apply for an ESEA waiver?  If so, what will that mean for you?  And what about the reauthorization of ESEA, IDEA, WIA, AEFLA, and Perkins?

New regulations, legislation, and budget proposals are flying around Washington as politicians run for reelection and government officials work to put their stamp on federal policy before Election Day. So if you do not know the answers to these questions – or if just thinking about them is making your head spin – ensure you are up-to-date on new initiatives and regulatory changes by attending Brustein & Manasevit, PLLC’s fall forum.  Attorneys, experts, and agency staff will be on hand to brief you on current policy, proposed changes, and how the November election results will impact federal grants management down the road.  Don’t be left out!

This year, for the first time – we are offering an optional pre-session.  Michael Brustein will conduct a 2½ hour tutorial on the Education Department General Administrative Regulations (EDGAR) Plus Book, which will provide an in-depth review to the federal grants management and allowability rules.  All attendees will be provided an EDGAR-Plus book.  This pre-session will give you a heads up on all the rules and regulations discussed during the forum.

Our action packed two day conference will include representatives from the Office of Inspector General (U.S. Education Department), the U.S. Government Accountability Office, as well as officials from the Louisiana Department of Education addressing the high risk designation of Orleans Parish, and officials from Philadelphia School District discussing federal education grant management reforms.  Additionally, attorneys from the firm will address a wide range of topical issues including programmatic and fiscal compliance under the major federal education grants.

Below is a draft agenda. When you register you will be asked to select which breakout sessions you plan to attend.  We have identified an experience level for each breakout session to assist attendees in their selection process; however, the levels are simply recommendations.  As always, please remember that the forum agenda and speakers are subject to change and we will notify all attendees of any changes or additions to the draft forum agenda provided.

Registration and payment are available on-line.  In light of the continuing budget shortfalls we are all experiencing this year, we are continuing an early bird special discounted rate as well as a discounted group rate to make it more affordable to attend this important conference!  As always please remember that the forum agenda and speakers are subject to change and we will notify all attendees of any changes or additions to the draft forum agenda provided.

In our effort to GO GREEN, we will be providing all attendees with access to electronic versions of all the PowerPoint presentations, appendices and resources through a secure website.  Prior to the start of the conference, all attendees will receive an email with instruction for accessing and downloading the materials.  If you want to obtain a booklet including paper copies of all the presentations you MUST select that option when registering.  We will NOT be providing hard copies of the booklets unless it is specifically requested on the registration form.

There are no prerequisites or advanced preparation required to attend and the material presented is provided on-site.  Learning objectives:
